Scenic Walks

The Kaimai Ranges
The Kaimai Ranges offer some of the finest bush tracks available anywhere on the globe. Tracks are safe and well maintained. A variety of walks exist to suit all levels of fitness and experience.

Karangahake Walkway
The Karangahake Walkway, located in the Karangahake Gorge only 15 minutes from Katikati, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand, is a delightful walk down memory lane.

This historical walkway runs beside a river and follows the path of the old pipeline that used to bring water down the valley to drive the battery for the gold mines at Karangahake.

There are a number of tracks to choose from, depending on time and fitness levels but, whatever track you choose, you will be in awe of the beauty of the area, from its native bush and steep valleys to the gushing river below.

Walking tracks around Mount Maunganui

The Mount
Mount Maunganui is a conical dormant volcano that sits at the end of a peninsula with a sweeping, white sand beach on one side, and one of New Zealand's largest harbours on the other.

Visitors and locals take great pleasure in walking the base track or hiking to the summit of Mount Maunganui.  Both tracks offer superb scenery of Tauranga's inner harbour and busy port, small rocky bays, the ocean and Mount Maunganui beach.

About 3km in circumference, the base track is relatively gentle and usable for most fitness levels, taking about 45 minutes to an hour for a leisurely walk. There is also plenty of time to view the spectacular scenery with picnic chairs and tables at various points along the track.

A hike to the summit, approximately 232 metres, of Mount Maunganui is more suitable for those whose fitness levels are average or above.  The view from the top is outstanding, offering superb views of surrounding islands, and the Mount beaches and harbour.  This hike takes approximately 1 hours to complete, however, this will vary depending on which track you take and your level of fitness.
